Deer prefer plants
that have tender, sweet tasting parts. When seeking plants for a deer
resistant landscaping, choose those which are prickly, bitter, coarse,
toxic, hairy, tough, aromatic or have a milky sap.
Some plants can survive by growing very rapidly, reseeding themselves
prolifically or by spreading very quickly and thus, be able to keep up
with the damage done by a hungry deer.
Under certain conditions, such as an overpopulation of deer or when
weather causes starvation, deer will eat almost anything and no type of
plant used in deer resistant landscaping is safe.
